ELKA SUSPENSION INTRODUCES NEW SHOCK UPGRADES FOR CAN-AM COMMANDER MODELS

BOUCHERVILLE, QUEBEC, September 28th, 2010 — The pioneers of arftermarket suspension for SxS have recently developed some cool new shock absorbers upgrades for all the new Can-Am Commander models:
  • Commander 1000
  • Commander 1000XT
  • Commander1000X
  • Commander 800R
  • Commander 800XT
These hot-looking shocks with their massive 46mm bodies are also offered in a newly redesigned piggyback configuration for front and rear, making them very easy to install.
These are offered in 3 different shock configurations for which the pricing has been reduced by as much as 30%:
  • STAGE 2 :         Piggyback reservoir, Preload adjustable, $445 /ea.
  • STAGE 2+ :       Piggyback reservoir, Preload and Rebound adjustable, $545 /ea.
  • STAGE 4 :         Piggyback reservoir, High/Low-Speed Compression, Rebound, $595 /ea.
All configurations provide the same benefits by increasing wheel travel for a more comfortable ride, helping to eliminate bottoming-out, limiting chassis roll and dive while improving traction and cornering stability. The Stage 4 goes further by providing external adjustability of both high- & low-speed compression, which allows the driver to separately dial-in the chassis stability without affecting bump compliance and absorption.

Interested customers are encouraged to place their order now in order to get a fast turnaround time and enjoy an optimized ride before the riding season is over.

PIM-2 and DATA Box Accessories Now Available for the 2010 Kawasaki Teryx 750 from Yoshimura R&D

Chino, Calif. – September 30, 2010 – The second generation Yoshimura Peripheral Interface Module (PIM-2) offers riders a simple and effective method of tuning their fuel delivery systems to get the most out of today’s fuel injected machines. When combined with the DATA Box accessory, the PIM-2 becomes a powerful and cost-effective method of creating custom fuel maps without the need for an expensive custom dyno tune. The PIM-2 has an excellent track record of performance and durability, and is now available for the 2010 Kawasaki Teryx 750.

The PIM-2 is simple to install: simply mount the unit using the included mounting hardware, plug it into the stock wiring harness, choose one of the two preloaded fuel maps, and you’re done! The two included maps are designed for use with a Yoshimura Slip-on exhaust or Full System, but there are additional maps available for download on the Yoshimura website.

For the ultimate in fuel-map customization, just add a Yoshimura DATA Box accessory. This data acquisition kit automatically calculates the required air/fuel adjustments required at each RPM/throttle position to reach the user-defined target ratio, then it generates an optimized custom fuel map for the PIM-2. Translated, that means you’ll get great power and throttle response at every RPM and throttle position, without spending all of your time and money on an expensive dyno session.

Both the PIM-2 and DATA Box accessories include all of the necessary mounting hardware and easy to follow instructions for a quick install. Installation of the DATA Box may require some modification of the exhaust system to receive the included oxygen sensor.

GoPro - World’s Best Selling Wearable HD Camera Company - Launches HD HERO 960

September 29, 2010 — Half Moon Bay, Calif.  GoPro, the world’s best selling wearable HD camera company, is proud to announce the release of the HD HERO 960, an entry level $179 version of the award winning HD HERO camera. The HD HERO 960 incorporates the same professional image and sound quality that has made the original HD HERO the camera of choice for more athletes and filmmakers than any other sports camera in the world. The HD HERO 960 is available today at GoPro.com and worldwide at authorized GoPro retailers for $179.99 (USA MSRP).
Whether you’re passionate about outdoor sports or motorsports, jumping out of gondolas or out of airplanes, chances are you’ve heard about GoPro’s now world famous HD HERO line of wearable and gear mountable cameras. Designed for attaching to your body, head, helmet, and favorite gear, the HD HERO line of sports cameras makes it easy to capture professional quality HD video of you and your friends in action. A wide array of mounting accessories ranging from chest harnesses to head straps, pole mounts to surfboard mounts make it easy to capture incredible footage normally only seen in professional productions. As a result, GoPro’s HD HERO line of cameras is not only the top selling sports camera in consumer markets but is also the top selling camera to Hollywood for film and TV productions where an “easy to mount anywhere” professional HD camera is needed. GoPro’s success is best illustrated by the number of TV shows airing on Discovery Channel, National Geographic, CNN, CBS, BBC, Versus, FuelTV, SPEED TV, and more that feature footage from HD HERO cameras.
"When I saw the footage from the GoPro on our big screens at Skywalker Ranch, I was amazed,” said producer Rick McCallum of Lucasfilm Ltd.
The HD HERO 960 is an entry level version of the original 1080p HD HERO, sharing the same cutting edge video and audio capture technology but with resolutions on the HD HERO 960 limited to 960p (1280 x 960) and 720p (1280 x 720) at 30 frames per second, and WVGA (848 x 480) at 60 frames per second. Also removed from the HD HERO 960 is the HERO BUS™ expansion port that is present on the full featured 1080p HD HERO. The HERO BUS allows for LCD, secondary battery and additional expansion BacPacs™ to be attached to the original 1080p HD HERO camera, but not the HD HERO 960.
Aside from theses changes, the HD HERO 960 is a full blooded GoPro camera. Retained are the award winning image and audio quality, ease of use, and durability. A sample of video shot in 960 on the HERO can be seen here. The HD HERO 960 is compatible with GoPro’s full line of mounting accessories and comes standard with GoPro’s first class customer service and one year warranty.
Also featured in the HD HERO 960 is GoPro’s hands-free 5 megapixel timelapse photo mode. This automatic photo taking feature landed ASP World Longboard Champion, Harley Ingleby, on the cover Australian Longboarding Magazine this past July. The above photo is the original shot that landed the on the cover of the magazine. “I just paddled out and the wave that got the cover shot was actually the very first wave I ever set it up to shoot still photos,” said Ingleby.
A new feature on the HD HERO 960 is “One Button Mode” which locks the camera into video or photo mode and automatically starts recording once the camera is turned on. Since the camera is locked into recording once turned on, this new “One Button Mode” makes it easier than ever to capture the footage of your most exciting moments with the single press of a button. Perfect for new users, loaning the camera to friends, or when rented out to rental customers, One Button Mode makes the HD HERO 960 as easy to use as pressing a button. One Button Mode can be turned on and off, depending on the user’s preference.
The HD HERO 960 shares the same bomb-proof housing construction that has taken the original 1080p HD HERO to both the North and South poles, to the edge of Space and down to the great depths of the ocean. Rated to 180’/60m, the HD HERO 960’s housing protects the camera during any activity so that you can focus on having fun without worrying about the camera. In the event that you do damage the housing, replacement lenses, housings, and other parts are available so that you can replace only those parts you need, not the entire camera.
Included mounts that come with the HD HERO 960:
  • Head Strap – Allows you to wear the camera like a headlamp. You can also pull this strap over helmets for easy camera sharing between friends.
  • Flat and Curved Surface Adhesive Baseplates - Baseplate easily adheres onto a flat or curved surface allowing the HD HERO 960 with simple click on and quick release mounting.
A new mount featured in the HD HERO 960 is GoPro’s Helmet Front Mount, a curved extension arm that makes it easy to mount the HD HERO 960 on the front of a helmet like a miner's light or headlamp. The most low profile and convenient way to mount a camera on a helmet, the Helmet Front Mount also allows for the camera to be extended out in front of the helmet and pointed back at the wearer, allowing for incredible self portrait videos and photos of the action.
GoPro’s HD HERO Cameras Capture Video You and Others Actually Want to Watch
“We’ve been amazed at not only the quality of video that our customers have produced with the HD HERO since it’s launch, but also the variety of activities our customers are engaged in. People use the HD HERO camera for every type of activity imaginable,” said Nicholas Woodman, founder and CEO of GoPro, “Everyone has their passion and we’re so stoked that the HD HERO seems to be people’s solution for capturing incredibly high quality HD footage of that passion. The reason behind the HD HERO 960 is to make it easy for even more people to GoPro. We can’t wait to see the amazing footage all of our new customers are going capture and share.”
A simple search for “GoPro” on video sharing sites brings back thousands of videos consumers have created and proactively tagged as ‘GoPro.’
“We don’t automatically mark videos that were uploaded from a GoPro, so the fact that people are tagging their videos ‘GoPro’ is a great sign that our customers are really fired up on GoPro’s brand,” exclaimed Woodman. “Equally exciting is the average number of views these videos are getting. It’s telling that so many people love watching content captured with a GoPro camera. Your average GoPro customer is creating content that is often on par as with network television programming. That’s our most satisfying accomplishment...that we’re putting the power of professional HD capture into the hands of everyday enthusiasts. GoPro, indeed,” Woodman exclaims.
A quick visit to GoPro’s Facebook page shows both the diversity of its customers as well as their authentic passion for the GoPro brand and their own personal HD HERO cameras. Visit it at http://www.facebook.com/goprocamera

Warrior Lifestyles Honored at American Sand Association Anniversary Party

Weekend Warrior Water Presents Check to ASA

PERRIS, CA SEPTEMBER 28, 2010: Larry Broyles from Warrior Lifestyles was honored at America Sand Associations (ASA) 10th Anniversary party September 18, 2010 at the Sand Sports Super Show. He received an award from REACH Air Medical and presented the ASA with a check from Weekend Warrior Water.

Warrior Lifestyles supplied a trailer for the REACH Air Medical Glamis landing pad location. The trailer is used as the ground headquarters for the area where pilots spend comfortable hours on call for potential immediate first response calls. “We want to thank these folks who allowed REACH Air Medical to do some amazing things out there this season, this is a small token of our appreciation for the work that they have done, that has allowed us to have our service as close to those that recreate as possible,” said Don Wharton, West Coast Regional Manager for REACH.

Larry Broyles, President of Weekend Warrior Water, presented the yearly check to the American Sand Association based on water sales. Five cents from every bottle of water sold goes directly to ASA with the intention of helping keep the dunes open. “Read the bottle, I have sent the message to people that have no idea about riding, being safe or even being on an ATV,” said Broyles. “Thank you, I am glad to be a part of this organization, this is my second year and am very proud to work with Bob Mason and all you folks.”

Warrior Lifestyles is focused on the off road community as a whole. The company gives back as much as they enjoy building quality trailers that allow enthusiasts to have a quality trip. “Its not a weekend anymore, it is a lifestyle.”

NEW APPAREL BUSINESS FOCUSES ON HONORING THOSE WHO SERVE OUR COUNTRY

American Founder Isn’t Tired of Tires,
He’s Simply Grateful to be an American

ST. LOUIS, MO --Sept. 28, 2010-- Honor, Guts & Glory™ is a new on-line apparel company and web forum with an unmistakable message. Each T-shirt, hat, decal and bag proudly displays the Honor, Guts & Glory™ name and waving flag logo, which testifies to the traits of American servicemen, servicewomen and their families who have made sacrifices for our freedom.

"Most Americans have no idea how much is sacrificed on our behalf.  Those who do understand the sacrifice don't always know HOW to show their appreciation to servicemen, servicewomen and their families.  Well, HERE's one simple way," exclaims founder Michael L. Green. "Post on it, wear it or share it," he adds, describing how people can use the website, gear and forum.

www.HonorGutsAndGlory.com is founded on one ideal - to honor, respect and thank all patriots who have served our country in various ways.  The website includes blogs, photos, stories, videos and logo gear.  "We wanted to create a place where selfless Americans can be honored," said Green.  So he’s creating a web exchange and archive of people who truly contribute to American society.

An All-American tire company may not seem like the ordinary parent of a web-based apparel company with a message.  Then again, St. Louis-based Pit Bull Tires' founder is no ordinary businessman.

“I’m an American! That’s the connection,” Michael L. Green replies when asked about the ties between tires, this new site and himself.  “I’m choosing to remind people that there are men and women out there sacrificing for all of us (here and abroad) and that they are truly the best of us. They are the anchor of our freedom - what keeps American ideals from being washed away.  Remembering the sacrifice of others makes us grateful for the lives we have and helps remind us to appreciate our lives, our freedom and our loved-ones."

For years, Green has embossed "Honor, Guts & Glory™" on his Pit Bull Tires, so his customers can literally drive home this message about the men and women who serve our country.  The rest of us can simply wear it, by visiting the gear page at HonorGutsandGlory.com.
HonorGutsAndGlory.com sells simple products on-line, for people who support the message.  The ultimate goal is to not only create an archive and spread the message, but also to support charities that help the people HGG is honoring, such as the Wounded Warrior Project and VeteranOutdoors.com.

The site encourages sharing short stories of heroes on the web.  Submissions and photos can be sent to Honor, Guts & Glory™ through the “Submit Your Story/Photo” link at www.HonorGutsAndGlory.com

LOCKSTRAPS LAUNCHES ALL-NEW SECOND-GENERATION LOCKING TIE DOWNS

Lock Straps

Temecula, Calif. June 8, 2010 — Lockstraps LLC was forged in 2009, shortly after the president of the company, Jeff Cranny, had the misfortune of having motorcycles stolen from his truck. He realized the importance of being able to secure his truck bed cargo from potential thieves. It prompted him to find a dependable device to secure his valuables. Jeff’s idea was to produce a heavy duty tie down with a combination lock. Having developed the patent pending Lockstraps, Jeff’s current vision is to put smiles on the faces of Lockstraps’ customers by stopping thieves in their tracks.

Lockstraps protect the honest, and disable the dishonest. In 2009 the FBI reported 1.5 million bicycles stolen in the United States. Police say that 90% of theft is “see it, grab it, and run.” If valuables appear difficult to steal, thieves will most likely move on to an easier target.

Lockstraps are well constructed. Because of the carabineers, Lockstraps will never pop off like typical straps with “S” hooks. They are built with an eight-bound stainless steel cable sandwiched between double nylon webbing. Tough rivets keep dual combination carabineer locks in place at both ends of the Lockstraps. The owner may change the combination with each use if so desired and may set different combinations on either carabineer. Lockstraps also incorporated a soft tie-extension so no scratching occurs. A lot of thought and effort was put into creating the best most affordable tie-down strap on the market. The Lockstraps locking tie downs provide piece of mind, security, and unmatchable quality.

Lockstraps are 8.5 feet long, 1.5 inches wide, 1/4 inch thick, and weigh 2 pounds each. They come backed with a 100% satisfaction guarantee and a 120 day parts and labor warranty. Now you can secure motorcycles, ATV’s, tools, equipment, bicycles, etc. in less than a minute. Each strap is sold individually with a retail price of $39.95 – $44.95. Lockstraps can be found throughout an extensive dealer network throughout the states and on line at www.lockstraps.com

2010 Sand Sports Super Show Recap from DuneGuide.com

Southern California dune season is right around the corner and the traditional start to the season is kicked off at the annual Sand Sports Super Show.  This year's show was held on September 17, 18 & 19, 2010 and it was the 12th annual show.

In this tough economy, it was great to see a solid turnout for exhibitors and even more than that, the number of people crowding the Orange County Fairgrounds was quite impressive.  Everyone I talked to said sales were better than expected. Let's hope we are now on the upswing and better times are ahead of us.

The UTV market segment continues to grow. With the Can-Am Commander being the the newest side x side on the market, I was hoping to see lots of new products on display.  Unfortunately, they were just starting to hit dealers showrooms when the show started, and only a few aftermarket companies were able to get their hands on a unit with enough time to build something.  On the short list were DragonFire Racing and Todd's Custom Billet.  Both of their Commander's sported roll cages, bumpers and long travel suspension. I had my demo Commander 1000 XT in our booth and it had a new Muzzys dual exhaust, Axia Alloys mirrors and paddle tires from Fullerton Sand Sports mounted on OMF Performance billet center beadlock wheels. I expect that in just a few more months, the market will be flooded with new Can-Am Commander products. It will be an exciting dune season to have a Commander.

Be sure to check out our full coverage from the show:

Side note:
We will be installing a set of the Stage 4 Elka shocks on our Can-Am Commander 1000 XT in the near future.  Be sure to stay tuned as we test and review these in the dunes and desert this Fall.

The Stage 4 SXS shocks are the obvious choice for drivers seriously committed to the cutting edge who refuse to make any compromises. These drivers and racers demand the highest performance and the most adjustability to suit their aggressive and fast style of riding.

These shocks feature independent adjustability of the high- and low-speed compression which allows you to adjust your suspension to react differently to big hits, sharp edges and jumps as well as for cornering and accelerating. Racing conditions can vary dramatically from one track to another, and sometimes even within the same track. With the Stage 4, you can make your suspension react with optimal efficiency over an entire track without compromise. St. Anthony Dunes - Sand dune razors cause of multiple deaths this year

Source: http://www.kidk.com/news/103483129.html

FREMONT COUNTY - Three people have died this year while spending time on the St. Anthony Sand Dunes. And in the last 5 weeks, the amount of injuries has been spiking. Taking action for you, Eyewitness News finds out the cause and what can be done to prevent unnecessary deaths.

Before you go out to the St. Anthony Sand Dunes to have a good time, there are a few safety precautions you need to take that could save your  life. Having the right equipment like a helmet and a flag on your vehicle and knowing your terrain will go a long way.

"Try to get to know your riding area. And don't think because you were out there one day it's going to be the same next, because as much wind as we get out here the (sand dunes) change everyday," said Wayne Sawyer with the Fremont County Sheriff's Office.

"So you've transported people with the sand rail, how often is it utilized to go out and rescue?" Steven Pope asked.

"In the last five weeks we've averaged one run a weekend to go out and pick somebody up that was hurt," said Fremont County Deputy Don Powell.

"That's quite a few then?" Pope inquired.

"Oh ya, it gets used in its rescue capacity a lot," said Powell.

Razors, sharp edges to the sand dunes, are what people recreating on the sand dunes need to be aware of. Because if a sand rail or ATV comes up to a razor and over the edge, they could see some unexpected air that they aren't prepared for. The other problem is when an ATV or sand rail comes up to a razor and they stop too suddenly, get a tire over the edge while trying to stop and just doesn't work exactly how they were thinking, and they actually flip over.

That's what happened on Sunday when the latest fatality happened at the Choke Cherry Dune area.

"His wife had already been in front of him... he came up to this dune and didn't see how sharp it was and how far it dropped off. He just came over it, and when he came down and landed, the four wheeler rolled on top of him," said Sawyer.

What remains of that tragedy is a broken off flag pole, and some drops of blood in the sand. An all too true reality to these responders who hope people will take an extra moment of precaution while at the St. Anthony Sand Dunes.

Working group gets closer to identifying possible ATV trails

Source: http://www.theumpquapost.com/articles/2010/09/15/local_news/doc4c910ef236145656858825.txt

A working group will have recommendations by Oct. 30 on where ATVs should be allowed in vegetated areas of the Oregon Dunes.

The 15-member group has met since last November to identify possible trails in parts of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.

Ross Holloway, a contractor hired by the U.S. Forest Service to lead discussions, said at a Sept. 11 meeting in North Bend that beach grass and ATV noise continue to be sticking points in the group’s conversations.

At the middle riding area of the Dunes NRA, near Winchester Bay, discussion had centered around tree-covered dunes called the forested fingers and a grassy foredune in the area’s southwest corner.

ATV enthusiasts fear trails designated by the Siuslaw National Forest, which manages the dunes, will take away riding area.

Rod Roberts, a Coos County Sheriff’s Office deputy who represents law enforcement on the state ATV Account Allocation Committee, cautioned the working group to consider the economic impact from ATV riders.

The allocation committee pays grants from ATV permits to law enforcement and other dunes stakeholders.

“The other groups don’t have that kind of money,” Roberts said.

The forest assigned Holloway to create a discussion group after federal land managers in 2008 were required to create travel management plans. Those plans outline how vehicles may be used off designated roadways on federally owned land.

The Siuslaw National Forest put off assigning routes in the Oregon Dunes because of the large number of existing trails created by ATVs in vegetated areas.

In the forest’s dunes management plan, vegetated areas — often called 10(C) lands — are supposed to be off-limits to vehicles unless otherwise posted.

When the forest’s travel management plan went into effect this year, 10(C) lands were closed. The Forest Service is not enforcing the closures. It’s waiting instead until it finishes an environmental impact study and designates routes in these vegetated areas.

Frank Davis, the forest’s natural resource planner, said forest managers will begin the impact study sometime after Oct. 1. The study could consider anything from wildlife and fisheries to public capacity in riding areas.

“They’ve got to consider all the aspects of managing an ecosystem out there,” Davis said.

He said input from the working group probably will be considered by forest managers as they evaluate possible 10(C) ATV trails.

“If they come up with some designated routes and they make it through the appeals process, it withstands public scrutiny, it will be added to the off-highway management plan,” Davis said.

In an online survey of the group, most stakeholders supported the use of an existing trail on the forested fingers in the middle riding area as an official designated route.

On the southwest corner, the group largely supported establishing a buffer strip of 10(C) land between the foredune and a nearby beach, which is closed to vehicles. Grass east of that strip would open for ATVs to drive in.

Working group members will approve trail options by Oct. 16. Holloway said he will submit a report on group discussions to the Siuslaw National Forest by Nov. 1.

U.S. acknowledges four additional R.S. 2477 highway rights-of-way in Kane County lawsuit

The United States acknowledged four more R.S. 2477 rights-of-way in a Kane County and State of Utah quiet title suit filed in U.S. District Court. The Sand Dunes, Hancock, Mill Creek and Bald Knoll roads join the recently acknowledged Skutumpah road as public highways under County jurisdiction as they cross federally managed lands.

These five roads, totaling approximately seventy-five (75) miles, provide public access to communities, private property, grazing allotments, mineral resources, and to numerous scenic locations including the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. The County now has the requisite authority to repair the roads to correct public safety hazards and will maintain and sign the roads consistent with County and State highway standards.

The full scope of the rights-of-way, along with the validity of seven other roads in the lawsuit, will be determined by the U.S. District Court. Kane County remains hopeful that with further court guidance, the Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Land Management will be able to acknowledge the public's highway rights across federally managed lands without the tremendous cost and delay of litigation.

Presidential proclamation raises questions about the fate of riding on public land

In a proclamation declaring September 2010 as "National Wilderness Month," President Barack Obama extolled the virtues of federal Wilderness. The proclamation raises concerns indicating that the administration may press to close off more public land to responsible motorized recreation.
The president noted in the proclamation that last year he signed the Omnibus Public Lands Management Act -- controversial legislation that permanently closed 2 million acres of public land nationwide to off-highway motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and all other motorized vehicles by designating the land as Wilderness.
"This month, we must renew our pledge to build upon the legacy of our forebears," Obama said in the proclamation. "Together, we must ensure that future generations can experience the tranquility and grandeur of America's natural places."
The legislation consisted of a daunting collection of more than 160 pieces of legislation and more than 1,300 pages of text. Lawmakers complained that they didn't even have the opportunity to review as many as 70 of the bills that were part of the legislation before being forced to vote.
The AMA questioned the Wilderness designation, and maintained that it was inappropriate because much of the land in question failed to meet the legal definition of Wilderness established by Congress in 1964.
"The AMA supports appropriate Wilderness designations," said AMA Senior Vice President for Government Relations Ed Moreland at the time. "However, when those lands include roads, trails, power lines, dams, bridges and structures, they do not meet the clear definition of Wilderness. All recreationists must protest these unfair measures before responsible motorized access to public land is lost forever."
Despite tens of thousands of e-mails and phone calls from riders, which were instrumental in derailing the original legislation, congressional maneuvering breathed new life into the measure by inserting its language into an unrelated bill, H.R. 146, known as the Revolutionary War and War of 1812 Battlefield Acquisition Grant Program. Congress then passed that legislation and the president signed it into law on March 30, 2009.
Under the law, areas where motorized vehicles aren't allowed include parts of the Monogahela National Forest in West Virginia; Jefferson National Forest in Virginia; Mount Hood, Badlands, Spring Basin and Copper Salmon areas in Oregon; Sabinoso in New Mexico; Riverside County in California; and Washington County in Utah.
